Officers and Directors Report
The officers and directors met on August 7, 2018 to discuss chapter activities and projects. No actions were taken.
Reports on the fishing programs for youth were received. All programs were successful; over 50 youth were helped to catch fish. Also the Environmental Day at Camp Mountain Run was a great success and a big THANK YOU to those who were able to help out.
Projects and Updates
Montgomery Run Riparian Planting
Tubes were placed on the trees other than the white pine. We still have some pine and elderberry to be planted when the weather cools down. We had two planting days. Thanks to chapter members, Penn State students, DCNR personal and volunteers who helped make this project a success. We will go to the splash dam in the fall to see how well the trees fared this summer.
Callen Run Dam Removal
The Western PA Conservancy removed the dam on Johns Run tributary to Callen Run near the former Heath Pump Station. Our chapter along with Iron Furnace will help with site restoration. The two chapters will be helping to remove the two dams on Callen Run as the permits are secured.
Chapter Picnics
We have had two picnics since May. The first one was at Walter Dick Park in Brookville on May 16, 2018 with Iron Furnace Chapter. While the weather was not the greatest with the creek on the high and muddy side, still our great anglers from the chapter caught more than a couple of trout after a fun dinner.
On July 22, 2018, we joined Iron Furnace and Jim Zwald Chapters at Bendigo State Park for a picnic and fishing. Once again Mother Nature wanted to dampen our fun. Lucky for us the East Branch of the Clarion is a tailwater fishery and the heavy rain the night before only left the stream slightly murky. All the food was provided by the chapters so the only thing to bring was your gear. Thanks to the Country Butcher for helping to make this a great picnic.
Upcoming Programs and Events
September 4, 2018 will be our annual kickoff meeting for the fall. Like the past years it will be a picnic followed by fishing. We will meet at the pavilion at the Tannery Dam with dinner at 6pm. The chapter will provide the meat and drinks. We ask that you bring a covered dish to pass. Please try to attend.
Starting on October 16, our regular monthly meetings will start back up on the third Tuesday at 7 pm. All meeting unless announced prior will be at Penn State DuBois. The October meeting will include annual elections (all current leaders have agreed to serve again), and a program on invasive species. Invasive plants and bugs plan are becoming more of an issue, so please try to attend.
Please mark your calendars for these upcoming programs and events.
