There is still time to get your ticket to our annual banquet on April 6th. If you want more information or to make a reservation please call George Kutskel at 814-771-4022 by Thursday April 4th.
The Chapters April meeting to be held at Martins Grocery Store will be the start of our participation in the Unassessed Waters Initiative. We will have Renae Greiner on hand with maps and lists of streams in Clearfield, Jefferson, and Elk Counties that the PFBC is look for data on. They are asking the chapter to provide any information on fish populations in these unassessed streams. A priority list will be made based on this information, so that those streams we list can be sampled by biologist and determine if they meet the wild trout criteria and be added to the PA Fish and Boat Commissions Wild Trout List.
Also at the April meeting, we will also discuss the timeline for this pilot project. If all goes well, the PA Fish and Boat Commission plans to launch the program state-wide in 2014. We would like to invite all local trout fisherman to attend the meeting and consider helping out with this monumental effort to get wild trout streams protected.
We have several items that we need volunteers for coming up in May and June.
–May 14th we need several interested individuals to help collect macro invertebrates at Clear Creek State Park with students from the Brockway Elementary School. The times are from 9:30-2PM for more information call me at 771-4022.
– May 17th DuBois Middle Enviromental Day at Camp Mountain Run. Our Chapter helps students collect macro invertebrates, do habitat assessments, and learn about Acid Mine Drainage and water chemistry. We have been doing this project of many years and can always use a couple of extra people to help with each station. You need not be an expert to help out. The day starts at 8am and ends at 1:30 the chapter provides a lunch.
– May 23rd DuBois Catholic School trout release and environmental day after the kids release their trout we help them collect macro invertebrates from the stream . We will be meeting in the parking lot of Preston’s Oak Furniture on Rt. 219 North. If you wish to help out call me at 771-4022
– June 2nd Clearfield County Youth Field Day at Camp Mountain Run from 8am -3pm. We will be hosting fly tying in the dining hall so we will be out of the weather. Eric Wilson is in charge of the arrangements an if you can help call him at 591-8919
– June 15th Big Brother Big Sisters fly fishing day. If you want to see excitement in a young person here is your chance. We have 8 “littles” that come to the Tannery Dam to catch fish. Last year was great as we had many adults to help these kids catch fish and they DID. We provide the rods and flies along with lunch. The day starts at 9am and will be done by 1PM so you can continue your day.
As you can see we have a lot going on this spring and we really could use some help. We have fun and eat well so try and make one or more of the above and lend a hand.
Thank you,
George Kutskel, President
