The officers and directors met on May 2, 2017 and took the following actions:
•    Approved sponsoring to send four youth from our region to the Pennsylvania Rivers Conservation and Fly Fishing Youth Camp at the Allenberry Resort Inn in Boiling Springs, PA.
•    Approved donating $333 to Clarion University for a $1000 educational award to a student studying biology. Oil Creek Chapter and Iron Furnace each contribute $333 to this program too. We have been in this partnership for many years
•    Approved a one-time donation of $500 to the Galeton Development Corporation for the Galeton Dam and Lake Feasibility Study. The Galeton Dam is a significant fish passage barrier for Pine Creek, and this study will address providing fish passage and other ecological issues.

2017 Chapter Picnic

AMCTU and Iron Furnace Chapter are once again co-hosting a chapter picnic at Dr. Walter Dick Park (“the fly project”) in Brookville on May 23, 2017 starting at 6 pm.

AMCTU provides the meat and Iron Furnace furnishes the table settings and the fixings. All we ask is that you bring a dish to share and a good appetite. Also bring your gear along as there is always time after we eat to do some fishing. We will be eating at 6 pm so arrive early and do some fishing or eat then fish.

Please come out and join in the fun and meet some of our TU friends. RSVP is not required but appreciated; contact George Kutskel at 814-771-4022 or maksak@comcast.net just so we have enough burgers and hot dogs.

Below are some upcoming youth events. Please  keep in mind that to help with youth events, you need have your clearances. Please take a moment and file the proper paperwork so we can count on having a large pool of helpers with the many youth events that we are asked to do. You can learn more about required clearances at this PA Trout webpage. If you need help, feel free to reach out to any of our directors.

Environmental Day

On May 19, 2017 AMCTU will again host the annual Environmental Day for DuBois Middle School at Camp Mountain Run. We have been involved in this for over 15 years. The day will start at 8:30 and end around 1:30. We have several stations such as electro fishing, macro collecting, fishing and habitat assessments. Jefferson County will held at Renlow Park on June 10. Contact Kelly Williams at 814-591-1299 for more information.

The Allegheny Mountain Chapter will be hosting a public fly casting and nymph fishing clinic on Tuesday April 18th on the banks of the Sandy Lick Creek in the Delayed Harvest section.  We will be meeting behind Martins Grocery Store along the walkway at 6pm.

Gary Kell, author of Keystone Fly Fishing, will be giving a free demonstration.   He will be willing to help those in attendance improve their casting as well as their fishing abilities.  There will be time after the program to try the lessons on the stream. Everyone is welcomed to attend.
