2017 Chapter Picnic

AMCTU and Iron Furnace Chapter are once again co-hosting a chapter picnic at Dr. Walter Dick Park (“the fly project”) in Brookville on May 23, 2017 starting at 6 pm.

AMCTU provides the meat and Iron Furnace furnishes the table settings and the fixings. All we ask is that you bring a dish to share and a good appetite. Also bring your gear along as there is always time after we eat to do some fishing. We will be eating at 6 pm so arrive early and do some fishing or eat then fish.

Please come out and join in the fun and meet some of our TU friends. RSVP is not required but appreciated; contact George Kutskel at 814-771-4022 or maksak@comcast.net just so we have enough burgers and hot dogs.

February Membership Program

The next membership meeting/monthly program will be Tuesday February 21, 2017 at the Community Room in Martins Grocery Store in DuBois starting at 7 pm. February’s program will feature Kylie Maland and Luke Bobnar of the Western PA Conservancy (WPC) Watershed Conservation Program.

They will present their efforts to incorporate more green, sustainable practices into stream restoration efforts. Project examples include using vegetative elements (a.k.a. soil bioengineering) in restoration practices to provide cost-effective and resilient alternatives and/or supplements to traditional methods (like log and stone structures for in-stream habitat and bank stabilization) to provide even more ecological services and habitat benefits to those projects. They will also discuss large woody materials (LWM) projects in the Allegheny National Forest and how those are developing.

WPC was also recently awarded a Coldwater Heritage Partnership Planning Grant to study the watersheds of Clear Creek State Park and State Forest, so they will discuss that process and hopefully recruit some interested volunteers to assist with the effort.

This meeting is open to the public and all are welcome. For more information call George Kutskel at 814-371-9290.

The officers and directors wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and a warm Holiday season. We recently held our re organization meeting at Hoss’s in DuBois, during that meeting it was decided that committee assignments would be made at a special meeting at Martin’s on November 9th. Here are some of the major changes for the new year. Matt Marusiak will be the newsletter editor as well as the web site editor. We voted to have 4 newsletters sent to all our members per year going forward. The first one should be going out soon so those who do not have email receive the same information as you are. Kelly Williams will be the banquet chair and is our social media (facebook) person. To keep up with any news please follow us on Facebook. Once again this year plans are in the works for a special meeting on the banquet planning to be held on January 3rd at the DuBois Nursing Home. Anyone with a desire to share their knowledge or ideas is welcome to attend this session at 7PM. We also discussed ideas to increase participation in the chapter and some major changes are in play as follows. (more…)

Banquet news

The time is quickly approaching for our 50th annual fundraiser.
If you have not yet sent your reservation in please do so before Monday March 28th.  Kelly is still taking phone calls for our last minute guest.  Her number is 814-591-1299.   I want to thank the members who have donated a prize or basket to be raffled off at the event.  If you wish to make up a bucket prize there is still time to do so, but we will be going to print this Friday March 25th with all the donors and sponsorships.  So if you have an item please let me know ASAP by emailing me at maksak@comcast.net  We can make arrangements on how best to get the item to the Falls Creek Eagles.

The line up will be different this year at the dinner so please take a moment and walk around before buying tickets as in the past.  We will be having silent auction items as well as several new small games of chance.  We also will be accepting credit cards as well so not to worry about running out of cash.

Chapter Meetings

Our next meeting is April 13th at 7pm at Martins Grocery Store in their community room.  We have Tom Doman from Penns Creek Guides coming to talk about Penns Creek fishing.  I would like to see a great turnout for Tom as we have had some great presentations lately and very few members in attendance.
The Chapter picnic and fishing will be Wednesday May 18th at Walter Dick Park in Brookville.  Once again the chapter will provide the meat and everyone bring a covered dish to share.  This is held with the Iron Furnace Chapter so it’s a good chance to meet some new friends.

Hope to see you at one or all of the above events.

Tight Lines
George Kutskel, President
