The officers and directors wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and a warm Holiday season. We recently held our re organization meeting at Hoss’s in DuBois, during that meeting it was decided that committee assignments would be made at a special meeting at Martin’s on November 9th. Here are some of the major changes for the new year. Matt Marusiak will be the newsletter editor as well as the web site editor. We voted to have 4 newsletters sent to all our members per year going forward. The first one should be going out soon so those who do not have email receive the same information as you are. Kelly Williams will be the banquet chair and is our social media (facebook) person. To keep up with any news please follow us on Facebook. Once again this year plans are in the works for a special meeting on the banquet planning to be held on January 3rd at the DuBois Nursing Home. Anyone with a desire to share their knowledge or ideas is welcome to attend this session at 7PM. We also discussed ideas to increase participation in the chapter and some major changes are in play as follows. (more…)

Banquet news

The time is quickly approaching for our 50th annual fundraiser.
If you have not yet sent your reservation in please do so before Monday March 28th.  Kelly is still taking phone calls for our last minute guest.  Her number is 814-591-1299.   I want to thank the members who have donated a prize or basket to be raffled off at the event.  If you wish to make up a bucket prize there is still time to do so, but we will be going to print this Friday March 25th with all the donors and sponsorships.  So if you have an item please let me know ASAP by emailing me at maksak@comcast.net  We can make arrangements on how best to get the item to the Falls Creek Eagles.

The line up will be different this year at the dinner so please take a moment and walk around before buying tickets as in the past.  We will be having silent auction items as well as several new small games of chance.  We also will be accepting credit cards as well so not to worry about running out of cash.

Chapter Meetings

Our next meeting is April 13th at 7pm at Martins Grocery Store in their community room.  We have Tom Doman from Penns Creek Guides coming to talk about Penns Creek fishing.  I would like to see a great turnout for Tom as we have had some great presentations lately and very few members in attendance.
The Chapter picnic and fishing will be Wednesday May 18th at Walter Dick Park in Brookville.  Once again the chapter will provide the meat and everyone bring a covered dish to share.  This is held with the Iron Furnace Chapter so it’s a good chance to meet some new friends.

Hope to see you at one or all of the above events.

Tight Lines
George Kutskel, President

I hope you all received their invitation to our 49th annual banquet to be held on March 28th, at the Fall Creek Eagles.   We are still looking for donations for raffle items; along with individuals interested in helping to solicit prizes. If you can help in anyway please let me know.  This year there will be multiple opportunities for your business (or an individual) to sponsor the event. We have three different categories of sponsorship for you to show your support to the chapter.  Please check out our website www.amctu.org to learn more.

Do you know of a child that likes to fly fish and is between the ages of 12-15?  The PA Council along with Wayne Harpster are offering a day on the famous Spruce Creek.  This is a mentored fishing event with the Penn State Fly Fishing Club. The date is April 26th 2015.  They are currently taking applications which are due before April 3rd.  For additional information please go to www.patrout.org.

Every year we try and sponsor a student to the Rivers Conservation and Youth Fly Fishing Camp held at the Allenberry Resort in Boiling Springs PA.  This camp is open to students ages 14- 17 and is one week long. The deadline to apply is March 31st. This is a great opportunity to learn about our coldwater streams and get in some great fishing.   Please go to their website www.riverscamp.com for all the details.

CHANGE IN FEBRUARY MEETING

Last month I said that we would be having Bill Anderson come and speak about the Little Juniata River.  Unfortunately, Bill had a schedule change with his group’s monthly meeting and is unable to attend until March 11th.  The good news is that we will have Rachel Kester from National TU.  She will be talking about the many projects that TU are doing around the state as well as some updates on some of the projects we have been involved in.  This would be a great chance to get out and see what TU is doing.

We will be meeting at Martins Grocery in the community room at 7pm Wednesday February 11th.

If you need more information, contact George at maksak@comcast.net or 814-771-4022.

Thank you for attending our 48th annual banquet and fundraiser and making it a success. Next year’s banquet will be on March 28, 2015 at the Falls Creek Eagles.

We held two special raffles to raise money for trout stocking in the Bennett Branch and the West Branch of the Susquehanna in Clearfield. Due to the recovery efforts on the Bennett Branch, it was added to the approved trout water list this year. Both of these streams are great waters for stocking hatchery fish to provide more fishing opportunities.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA And congratulations to the winner of our first student poster contest, Adam Horner from the DuBois Area Middle School. The contest was open to 8th grade students from our area schools. As the winner, Adam received a LL Bean fly rod outfit.
